On nevember 27th, a webinar titled “Coworking Spaces and Displaced Ukrainians: From Providing Aid to Reconstruction” brought together experts to discuss how coworking spaces across Europe and within Ukraine have responded to the ongoing displacement crisis. The event was jointly organized by the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE), the European Coworking Assembly, and Spacebring.

Led by Marko Orel of VŠE, the session examined the rise of transnational solidarity within the coworking sector following the 2022 Russian invasion, the rapid evolution of coworking spaces inside Ukraine under wartime conditions, and the potential role of these hubs in supporting future reconstruction efforts.

Jeannine van der Linden of the European Coworking Assembly highlighted how coworking communities across Europe provided workspace, networks, and stability for displaced Ukrainian professionals, contributing to a broader discussion about coworking as emerging social infrastructure during times of social and civic uncertainty.

Helga Moreno from Spacebring shared an inside view of Ukraine’s coworking sector, where hubs have remained operational despite blackouts and infrastructure disruption. These spaces have become local resilience centers, offering reliable power, internet access, and community-based support. They have also introduced new collaborative models, including international partnerships and initiatives designed to prepare for the arrival of reconstruction teams.

Overall, the webinar emphasized the expanding role of coworking spaces as community anchors—capable of supporting displaced workers, strengthening local resilience, and contributing to Ukraine’s long-term recovery.
