Members of the REMAKING project actively participated in the XLV Annual Scientific Conference of the Italian Regional Science Association (A.I.S.Re), held at the Università “G. d’Annunzio” Chieti-Pescara.

As part of the programme, a special session about REMAKING titled “The impact of remote working and hybrid working on workers, companies and territories”, and chaired by Ilaria Mariotti, was organized, focusing on how new working models are reshaping labor markets, organizations, and local development dynamics.

The session featured the following contributions:

  • Il lavoro da remoto in Europa prima, durante e dopo la pandemia: un’analisi dai dati di EU-LFS – Paolo Emilio Cardone
  • Remote Work and E-Commerce: Mapping the Interconnections – Dimitrios Manoukas, Tommaso Cigognetti, Federica Maria Rossi
  • Remote Work vs Part-Time Employment: A New Work-Family Balance? – Thea Jansen, Marina De Angelis
  • The Influence of Flexible Working Arrangements on the Change of Residence in the Lombardy Region – Luca Alfieri, Ilaria Mariotti, Federica Maria Rossi

The special session aligned closely with the central theme of this year’s conference: territorial inequalities between regions, cities, and rural areas in a rapidly changing international context. Persistent disparities continue to challenge economic and social cohesion in Europe, despite major policy efforts such as the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

By addressing topics such as digital transformation, labour flexibility, and the spatial impacts of new work arrangements, the REMAKING session offered valuable insights into how remote and hybrid work can influence not only businesses and employees but also the development trajectories of territories.

The participation of the REMAKING project underscored its contribution to the ongoing debate on regional development models, with a focus on reducing inequalities and strengthening resilience, competitiveness, and sustainability.
